Overview:

DriveBackupV2 is a fantastic plugin that provides automatic backups to Google Drive, OneDrive or a remote (S)FTP Server! We love this plugin because you no longer have to worry about losing data from a server or your local machine. My personal choice is Google Drive because you are allowed up to 15GB of free space with their service, plus most of us are familiar with Google Drive’s interface.

Security Notice*

This plugin links with public accounts. Even though we believe it is secure, it isn’t a bad idea to make a dedicated Google/OneDrive account just for backups.

Installation:

DriveBackupV2 is insanely easy to install. So easy that I’ll provide all of the basic steps here:

  1. Download here
  2. Copy the .jar file to “/home/container/plugins” on the Control Panel and reload your server.
  3. In your server, type “/drivebackup linkaccount googledrive” (or “/drivebackup linkaccount onedrive) and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Done!

Helpful Commands:

  • “/drivebackup info” to see other commands.
  • “/drivebackup backup” to manually backup.
  • “/drivebackup nextbackup” to see how long until the next backup.
  • “/drivebackup status” to see if a backup is still in progress.

Configuration:

DriveBackupV2 is set to backup every 60 minutes, but you can change this in the “config.yml” file located within the plugins folder. By default, this plugin is configured to only backup “world” and “plugins”. If you want to backup all worlds, your “config.yml” should look like this:

Below are some options in the “config.yml”:

  • delay – is the time in minutes that the server waits to perform another backup.
  • keep-count – is how many backups will be stored in the cloud.
  • local-keep-count – is how many backups will be saved on the server.
  • backups-require-players – determines whether or not to run a backup. If set to false, it will back up regardless if there are players on or off the server.
  • dir – this is the local backup folder. We recommend you keep it as backups.
  • destination – this is your cloud destination. Change the name of this to whatever you want the folder to be named on Google Drive or OneDrive.
  • send-in-chat – set to false if you don’t want the server to be notified of server backups.

Conclusion:

Even though DriveBackupV2 doesn’t have anywhere close to the popularity of its main competitor EasyBackup, it is completely free! We recommend it to all servers looking to back up their world and plugin data.

TIP: Need more Google Drive storage? Google offers very fair pricing. For only $20/year, you can have 100GB of storage! You can see all their plans here.
